Lakeview Oncology and Infusion Services Given Local Artist's Work

Pictured are Lakeview oncology medical director, Dr. Candy Corey, and Rev. Al Lewis with a print of Autumn at Marine on St. Croix, by Tom Maakestad.
The newly expanded and remodeled oncology and infusion services department at Lakeview Hospital was recently the recipient of a gift from Rev. Al Lewis, who donated a copy of Autumn at Marine on St Croix, painted by local artist Tom Maakestad. The original art hangs in Christ Lutheran Church in Marine.

Pastor Lewis gave the painting in recognition and appreciation for the care his wife Judy received while a patient at Lakeview. “It was a view that my wife always loved,” said Lewis. “It holds a very special meaning for us and for many in our congregation. Those who are familiar with the St. Croix Valley will recognize the scenery, the colors and the feeling the painting invokes.”

“Judy and I were so very grateful for the care she received from her doctors and the nursing staff at Lakeview - and with newly created space, I understood there was a need for artwork,” continued Lewis. “After Judy passed away in July 2008, I felt that I had to do something. This is my way of honoring her care team in memory of Judy.”

After Rev. Lewis called the Lakeview Foundation to share his intention, arrangements were made for the receipt and placement of the artwork. “Our patients have commented positively on the picture. Lakeview staff are very impressed with the newest addition and are touched by Al’s generosity,” said Joyce Kramer, Lakeview’s oncology clinical coordinator. “We invite all patients and visitors to Lakeview to stop by and see our colorful window on the St Croix.”
